Job Summary
As an IT Applications Operations Specialist, you will play a key role in designing, building, supporting, and continuously improving the IT operations that underpin manufacturing applications at our Somerset site.
This is a critical position at the intersection of technology and production, helping to ensure operational readiness, business continuity, and effective collaboration with manufacturing stakeholders. You will contribute to a resilient, efficient IT environment where manufacturing applications remain robust, reliable, and continuously optimised.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of engineering and manufacturing business processes, together with expertise in digital technologies, OT systems such as SCADA and PLCs, and the IT applications that support these areas. Your technical knowledge and collaborative approach will be instrumental in developing a robust, future-ready technology landscape for the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation, support, and optimization of manufacturing IT applications (MES, ERP, PLM, CAD, QMS, WMS, etc.).
- Ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of business-critical manufacturing applications.
- Define and manage application support processes, including L1–L4 support, SLAs, incident management, and upgrades.
- Oversee application lifecycle management, integration, deployment, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, R&D, Quality, Supply Chain, and IT teams to deliver business-aligned solutions.
- Manage vendor relationships, service delivery, and application-related contracts and SoWs.
- Lead incident resolution, service continuity, and operational support across global teams.
- Ensure compliance with cybersecurity, regulatory, and risk management requirements.
- Support user training, adoption, and ongoing enhancement of digital capabilities.
- Contribute to technology roadmaps, digital transformation programs, and strategic IT initiatives.
Required Skills and Expertise
- Extensive experience managing manufacturing-related IT applications and supporting business-critical operations.
- Proven expertise in managing Operational Technology (OT) systems, including SCADA, PLCs, IoT devices, and manufacturing IT infrastructure such as networks and servers.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing applications, including PLM, MES, LIMS, CAD, simulation tools, and related technologies.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, and network architecture.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across the organization.
- Good understanding of cybersecurity principles, identity and access management, and security best practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Sound knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements and industry standards.
- Experience working with regulatory authorities, business partners, vendors, and third-party contractors while managing expectations and resolving concerns.
- Strong understanding of critical business processes and supporting IT systems, including the potential impact of operational disruptions and risk scenarios.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively plan, organize, and execute IT initiatives, including risk assessments, business continuity planning, disaster recovery strategies, and solution implementation.
- Effective project management skills with the ability to drive cross-functional initiatives and ensure successful delivery of technology solutions.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 10+ years of industry experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in system integration, architecture, and network management within manufacturing IT environments.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills to support business and IT alignment.
- Ability to work onsite in Somerset, UK, within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
