Purpose of the Role

The Senior Cutting & Stacking SME Engineer provides launch and ramp-up technical leadership for electrode cutting, stacking, jelly roll wrapping (where applicable), taping, and hot pressing / lamination processes in prismatic lithium-ion cell manufacturing. The role supports Global Manufacturing Engineering by defining robust, scalable processes that ensure stack dimensional integrity, alignment accuracy, mechanical stability, and high-yield production at takt. Acting as the primary technical escalation point during new line launches, this SME collaborates closely with equipment suppliers, manufacturing, quality, and assembly teams to stabilize cutting and stacking operations from pilot through SOP ramp. 

Key Responsibility Areas

Serve as the technical subject matter expert for electrode cutting and stacking processes for prismatic cells. 
• Helps to define, validate, and optimize process windows for electrode cutting accuracy, edge quality, burr control, and dimensional tolerances. 
• Provide hands-on technical support for stacking accuracy, layer alignment, count verification, and stack height variation control. 
• Collaborate with GME on technical development and troubleshooting for jelly roll wrapping or hybrid stacking architectures, including tension and alignment control. 
• Refine technical standards for taping materials, application methods, placement accuracy, and mechanical robustness. 
• Deliver concepts for optimization of hot pressing / lamination processes including pressure, temperature, dwell time, and tooling interfaces. 
• Support equipment selection, design reviews, FAT/SAT, IQ/OQ, commissioning, and production ramp-up for cutting and stacking systems. 
• Act as primary technical escalation point for yield loss, misalignment, delamination, stack deformation, or lamination defects during launch. 
• Lead structured root cause analysis (RCA), PFMEA updates, and corrective actions for cutting and stacking-related issues. 
• Define evidence and readiness criteria for launch stage-gate reviews related to cutting, stacking, and lamination. 
• Develop and maintain process specifications, control plans, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides. 
• Capture lessons learned and feed back into the Launch Execution Playbook and future programs. 

Knowledge Generic

Essential: 
• Deep hands-on experience in lithium-ion battery cutting and stacking processes, preferably for prismatic cells. 
• Proven expertise in jelly roll wrapping, taping applications, and hot pressing / lamination. 
• Strong understanding of stack compression mechanics, material handling, and dimensional control. 
• Experience supporting pilot lines, new production launches, and high-volume manufacturing ramps.
