Purpose of the Role
The Battery Pack Product Owner is accountable for the end-to-end definition, delivery, and lifecycle management of one or more battery pack products across Agratas’ targeted markets (e.g., Passenger Vehicle (PV), Commercial Vehicle (CV), and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)). The role acts as the central integrator across systems engineering, design engineering, cell, BMS, manufacturing, and commercial functions, ensuring delivery of competitive, safe, compliant, and cost-effective battery pack solutions aligned to customer and business needs.
In addition to owning the battery pack product, the role is responsible for defining, managing, and coordinating Battery Management System (BMS) requirements, feature content, integration activities, and delivery execution to ensure successful deployment of complete battery system solutions.
Key Responsibility Areas
Customer Interface and Technical Leadership
• Function as the main customer interface for technical battery system topics with the Agratas Program Management team.
• Lead cross-functional alignment across Pack Engineering, BMS, Cell, Manufacturing, Systems Engineering, and Quality.
• Lead customer and supplier meetings with relevant engineering leads on battery system technical topics.
• Communicate development progress and lead resolution of technical concerns with engineering teams and suppliers.
• Provide technical leadership for battery system integration, including battery pack and BMS customer requirements.
• Act as the primary escalation point for customer concerns and technical trade-off decisions.
Development Planning and Execution
• Drive product trade-offs across cost, performance, safety, manufacturability, serviceability, and scalability.
• Own product KPIs including cost, energy density, reliability, safety, and feature maturity.
• Plan and monitor battery pack and BMS development against program milestones.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Hardware, Software, and Systems teams to align program timelines and PI goals using SCRUM.
• Support PM in development timing, resources, cost estimates, and technical risk management.
• Lead BMS feature delivery and integration activities against program milestones.
• Coordinate hardware and software development for successful BMS deployment within the battery pack.
• Provide regular development status reports to internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements Analysis and Product Definition
• Translate customer, regulatory, and business requirements into engineering product requirements.
• Own battery pack system definition, architecture, performance targets, and product features.
• Own BMS requirements, feature definitions, interfaces, and functional performance targets.
• Collaborate with customers, ESP, third-party suppliers, Systems Engineering, and component teams to define and publish battery system requirements.
• Act as the primary customer contact for requirement reviews and approvals.
• Establish and maintain product requirement baselines and documentation throughout development.
• Own feature prioritization and requirement traceability across Pack and BMS development.
Production Readiness and Quality Assurance
• Ensure battery system sign-off and production readiness.
• Serve as Product Owner in Agile development, ensuring timely TLA, hardware, and software releases within the Agratas NPI process.
• Lead customer and supplier resolution of Pack, BMS, and integration issues throughout development.
• Support FTA, FMEA, 8D problem-solving, and applicable quality documentation.
• Support Engineering and Quality teams in customer reporting and compliance validation.
• Own the battery system feature maturity matrix for Pack and BMS development.
• Oversee battery pack, BMS, and PDU integration, verification, and validation.
• Support ASPICE, ISO 26262, and ISO 21434 compliance activities where applicable.
Strategic Planning and Roadmap Development
• Contribute to battery product strategy and technology roadmaps.
• Define future battery pack and BMS feature roadmaps aligned with customer and market requirements.
• Identify technology trends and integrate innovative battery system solutions.
• Work with R&D teams and strategic partners to evolve battery system functionality and performance.
• Support Agratas-owned battery system and BMS IP, requirements, models, tools, and engineering capabilities.
• Drive continuous improvement in product functionality, quality, performance, and customer value.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Proven experience in HV battery systems, battery pack development, Battery Management Systems, and automotive control units.
- Strong background in automotive product development, qualification processes, and technical documentation.
- Experience managing system-level requirements, product roadmaps, and cross-functional development activities.
- Knowledge and experience with automotive quality management tools such as FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, and 8D methodologies.
- First-hand experience in ASPICE, ISO 26262 (Functional Safety), and ISO 21434 (Cybersecurity for Automotive Systems).
- First-hand experience with CAN tools, diagnostics, requirements management tools, and JIRA (or equivalent) for project tracking and product management.
- Working knowledge of embedded software development, software release processes, and Agile methodologies (SCRUM).
- Understanding of HV battery packs, Battery Disconnect Units (BDU), Power Distribution Units (PDU), and battery system architectures.
- First-hand experience developing battery pack and/or BMS architectures and their associated requirements.
- Familiarity with verification and validation processes including Software-in-the-Loop (SiL), Model-in-the-Loop (MiL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL), system integration, and vehicle-level testing.
- Previously worked on a project from Kick-off to Job 1/Start of Production.
- Knowledge of State of Charge (SoC), State of Health (SoH), State of Power (SoP), balancing strategies, diagnostics, and prognostic systems.
- First-hand experience with cell development is beneficial but not required.
