Local student enjoys work experience with our Somerset team

Aiden Webber, 15, from Puriton, joined us and our construction partner, Sir Robert McAlpine, at the site of our UK battery manufacturing facility in Somerset as part of his work experience.

On Wednesday, Aiden stepped away from his usual routine as a Chilton Trinity School student in Bridgwater, to take part in a unique experience – shadowing Nick Cooper, our Community Engagement Manager. This included observing Nick as he delivered a presentation on Agratas local children at Woolavington Village Primary School and later joining a visit from a business and trade delegation from Québec.

He then spent Thursday with the Sir Robert McAlpine team, learning about the construction of ‘Building One’ – the first phase of our UK battery manufacturing facility  – and touring the whole site, where he got an up-close look at the steel structure, from its foundations right up to the top floor. Aiden also attended a daily activity briefing and assisted with work checklists and risk assessment method statements.

On Friday, Aiden attended a meeting with STEM engagement consultants to discuss how to deliver events for local schools, and met Sedgemoor Chamber of Commerce members, as they were setting up a Sedgemoor Business Excellence Awards event. He also experienced receiving briefings from our team members and consultants on site.

Commenting on his work experience placement, Aiden said:
“I felt that this huge project on my doorstep was the best opportunity for work experience, as it was important to me to acquire the knowledge to understand why the Agratas manufacturing facility is being built, and how important it is to the local communities, especially Puriton. The whole team including Agratas and Sir Robert McAlpine were incredibly friendly and a pleasure to work with over the three days. I felt a proper part of the team and as if I was any other employee on site.”
